Position Overview
Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma, a CMS Five-Star, Newsweek Top 10 State Hospital and 2024 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, is seeking an inpatient medicine mid-level provider to join its collaborative, high-performing hospitalist team. This role is an ideal fit for a hospitalist advanced practice provider (APP), nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) that values, supports and elevates your skills.
This is a true 7-on/7-off day shift position with no nights, no overnight call and the option to add shifts on your off weeks. This role delivers a manageable workload, a predictable schedule and attending physician support at every shift. Qualifications
- Nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) certification
- Board eligible (BE) required, board certified (BC) preferred
- Active Oklahoma state licensure or eligibility
- 3 or more years experience as an APP in a designated specialty (preferred)

We are currently looking for a Full Time Inpatient Medicine Mid Level Provider to join our Chickasaw Nation Department of Health (CNDH) team. This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center – Internal Medicine Inpatient (Hospitalist) setting.
Supervision Received
The Midlevel Provider is under the direct supervision of the Chief of Inpatient Internal Medicine and their designated primary and alternate supervising physician(s). The Supervising and/or Alternate Supervising Physician has continuing responsibility to follow the progress of the patient and to ensure that the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant does not function autonomously, and is responsible for all medical services provided by the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant under his/her supervision. The Supervising and/or Alternate Supervising Physician shall be available in person or by electronic communication at all times when the Physician Assistant is caring for patients.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to CNDH Medical Staff Bylaws, Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains a competent, considerate and objective professional relationship with patients to minimize complaints, dissatisfaction, or adverse impact regarding services.
- Serves on hospital committees and performance improvement teams as assigned by the Chief of Staff and/or Chief of Inpatient Internal Medicine.
- Participates in continuing medical education opportunities as required by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
- Treats all patients with respect and maintains a cooperative attitude with other employees to facilitate quality patient care.
- Responsible for continuity of care in the hospital inpatient setting and must give adequate notice for schedule changes, vacation, sick leave and continuing medical education leave to the Chief of Inpatient Internal Medicine and all scheduling parties.
- Maintains sensitivity to Native American Culture.
- Perform initial workup of patients upon admission (must be checked and countersigned by the supervising/alternate supervising physician within 24 hours).
- May write initial orders as delegated and authorized by the supervising/alternate supervising physician within 24 hours).
- Write/dictate patients discharge summary (must be checked and countersigned by the supervising/alternate supervising physician).
- Write patient progress notes and assessment and plan summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting positive and negative findings.
- Review and revise treatment and therapy plans as necessary or as indicated.
- Recognized and considers age-specific needs of patients.
- Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
- Record patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patients’ record.
- Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
- Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates lifesaving procedures when necessary.
- Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives and activities.
- Assist in conducting rounds, develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in the provision of continuity of care in other patient care settings.
- Order, perform, and/or interpret, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from the norm, common laboratory, radiological, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes.
- Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Order or perform routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and manage simple conditions produced by infection or trauma.
- Issue written and oral prescriptions and orders for medical supplies, services and drugs, including controlled medication in Schedules III, IV, and V (under 63 O.S. ss 2-312 as approved in the Physician Assistant Drug Formulary and Board rules).
- May write orders for a Schedule II drug for immediate or ongoing administration on site (under 63 O.S. ss 2-312 as approved in the Physician Assistant Drug Formulary and Board rules).
- Assist in the management of more complex illness and injuries, which may include assisting surgeons in the conduct of operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life-threatening situations.
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
- Facilitate the referral of patients to the community’s health and social services agencies, when appropriate.
- Provide health care services as delegated by the supervising physician when the service:
- Is within the Nurse Practioner's/Physician Assistant’s skill;
- Forms a component of the physician’s scope of practice; and
- Is provided with supervision, including authenticating with the signature any form that may be authenticated by the supervising physician’s signature with prior delegation by the physician.
- Maintain clear, legible, complete, and timely records and documentation in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws and CNDH Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain the safety and well-being of the patient according to individual needs including providing adequate and appropriate safety precautions and promoting adequate communication among caregivers.
- Adheres to the State of Oklahoma rules regarding physician supervision.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops; reviewing professional publication, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess and/or be willing to develop and enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential job functions.
Education:
- Required: Nurse Practitioner
- Successful candidate will possess a current unrestricted state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with prescriptive authority. Will be eligible for Oklahoma license and will secure an Oklahoma license within 90 days of employment.
- Successful completion of a formal program of study approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing which is designed to prepare registered nurses to perform in an expanded role in the delivery of healthcare. Entry-level preparation for NP practice must meet requirements as set forth in the Oklahoma Board of Nursing rules regarding practice as an APRN.
- Successful completion (or pending certification in process) of the national certifying exam given by a national certifying body acceptable to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
- Must show documentation that he/she has currently been working in a Family Practice advance practice setting within the last 12 months and is able to sufficiently evaluate, manage and treat patients for the scope of practice. New graduate’s training will satisfy this requirement.
- Required: Physician Assistant
- Hold valid unrestricted license to practice (or temporary authorization to practice) and be eligible for an Oklahoma license.
- Have graduated from an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program.
- Demonstrate successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, or its successor.
- Must be able to document working in a family practice environment with patients.
Training and Experience:
- Must be able to document working in a family practice environment with patients of all ages within the last 12 months. New graduate’s training will satisfy this requirement.
- Two to four years of experience is preferred
Licenses:
- Must hold valid licensure or temporary authorization to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Current unrestricted Oklahoma license.
- Current unrestricted DEA.
Physical Requirements:
- Work requires considerable standing, walking, bending and stooping. The individual may be required to lift in excess of 50 pounds, while assisting with patient care. He/she must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in the clinic. There is common exposure to contagious disease. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, family members and visitors.
- Work may require the use of surgical mask, gloves and/or eyeglasses. There may be danger of exposure to radiation, communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and/or airborne debris.
