Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

Description

This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center Emergency Department, both the main ER, Urgent Care, and Virtual Visit Clinic.

Supervision Received: 

The APP-Emergency Medicine is under the direct supervision of the Chief of Emergency Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health Medical Staff Bylaws and Policies and Procedures.
• Maintains a competent, considerate, and objective professional relationship with patients to minimize complaints, dissatisfaction, or adverse impact regarding services.
• Serves on hospital committees and performance improvement teams as assigned by the Chief of Emergency Medicine, Chief of Staff or Chief Medical Officer.
• Participates in continuing medical education as required by the appropriate Oklahoma Board of Licensure.
• Treats all patients with respect and maintains a cooperative attitude with other employees to facilitate quality patient care.
• Responsible for continuity of care and provides timely requests for schedule changes, vacation, sick leave and continuing medical education leave to the Chief of Service.
• Maintains sensitivity to Native American culture.
• Provides preventive diagnostic and therapeutic care and services for patients of all ages in the Main Emergency Department, Fast Track and Virtual Medicine Clinic of the Emergency Department.
• Provides preventive diagnostic and therapeutic care and services for patients in the Fast Track Clinic at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center or Ardmore, Durant, Purcell or Tishomingo Health Centers if requested.
• Makes appropriate referrals for definitive management of secondary and tertiary medical care.
• Adheres to rules of the appropriate Oklahoma Board of Licensure for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.
• Attends at least one medical staff meeting at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center each quarter of the calendar year.
• Evaluates and treats acute and minor illnesses and injuries.
• Writes initial admitting orders in compliance with CNDH policy.
• Adheres to State of Oklahoma policy for physician sponsorship.
• All other duties as assigned.

Experience:

•  A minimum of two to four years of experience in a provider setting.
• 12 months of Sole Provider experience in a high volume ED with physician back up.

Education:

• Nurse Practitioner
  • Successful candidate will possess a current unrestricted state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with prescriptive authority. Will be eligible for Oklahoma license and will secure an Oklahoma license within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of a formal program of study approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing which is designed to prepare registered nurses to perform in an expanded role in the delivery of healthcare. Entry-level preparation for NP practice must meet requirements as set forth in the Oklahoma Board of Nursing rules regarding practice as an APRN.
  • Successful completion (or pending certification in process) of the national certifying exam given by a national certifying body acceptable to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.  
  • Must be able to document 12 months experience working as sole provider in an ED with high volume and physician backup availability. Candidate must have knowledge of cardiac (acute MI management), neurologic (acute CVA management) and trauma experience. Successful candidate must have procedural skills as required in an emergency department setting. 
• Physician Assistant
  • Hold valid unrestricted license to practice (or temporary authorization to practice) and be eligible for an Oklahoma license.
  • Have graduated from an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program.
  • Demonstrate successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, or its successor.
  • Must be able to document 12 months experience working as sole provider in an ED with high volume and physician backup availability. Candidate must have knowledge of cardiac (acute MI management), neurologic (acute CVA management) and trauma experience. Successful candidate must have procedural skills as required in an emergency department setting.

Credentials:

• Must hold valid licensure or temporary authorization to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Current unrestricted Oklahoma license is preferred.
• Current unrestricted DEA.

Working Conditions:

• Work requires considerable standing, walking, bending and stooping. The individual may be required to lift in excess of 50 pounds, while assisting with patient care. He/she must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.
• Work will be performed in ED1 (Triage level 1, 2, and 3), ED2 (Triage levels 4 and 5), and/or Virtual Visit Clinic (VV).
• Shift times will vary and will require work on am and pm shifts.
• There is common exposure to contagious disease.
• The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, family members and visitors.
