Description
We are currently looking for a Full Time General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider to join our Division of Hospital and Nursing Services team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center working .
Summary
Provides inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services, including patient histories and physicals, treatments, medications, surgical procedures, pre-operative and post-operative care, etc. to patients, under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities
- Provides routine medical assessments and treatments for all ages
- Performs outpatient surgical procedures (removes cysts and skin lesions, debridement, etc.)
- Performs patient pre-operative hospital and clinic day surgery admission histories and physicals for surgical patients (obtains statement of chief complaint and present illness, past medical history, social history, and family history; records vital signs; reviews systems, including respiratory, neurologic, circulatory, lymphatic, head/ears/eyes/nose/throat, skin, musculoskeletal structure, etc.)
- Develops patient assessment and develops preliminary patient care plan
- Provides post operative care to patients on an as necessary basis (evaluates patient's physical condition to ensure no secondary complications have occurred due to surgery, removes sutures and/or staples, aspirates wound fluids, provides specific patient care as needed, etc.)
- Dictates discharge summaries for patient's medical record and for billing purposes, including final diagnosis, operations and/or procedures performed, complications (if any), discharge needs, discharge instructions, and a narrative summary of patient's stay as well as pertinent laboratory and pathology findings
- Occasionally makes hospital patient visits (rounds), with physician and/or independently, to monitor patient's current physical condition (reviews patient's medical record, talks to patient, performs appropriate physical examination, assesses changes in patient's condition, adjusts patient's care plan, writes new patient orders for medications, lab/x ray tests, etc.)
- Occasionally conducts and coordinates patient's hospital discharge process (informs and instructs patient on current condition and follow up care including outpatient, therapy and services, usage of medications, etc.); interacts with family members and/or other health care professionals relative to patient needs
- Documents all procedures and/or services to patients on charge (route) slips and processes route slips in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate billing to patient accounts
- Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types
- Answers questions in a courteous and professional manner
- Partners with internal and external services as needed to ensure appropriate referral is made

Experience:
- 2 years directly related experience
Education:
- Masters of Nursing
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
Credentials:
- Pass general background check
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration Number
- Requires either a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Standard Driver's License
